Welcome - January 31, 2008
Greetings friends,
Just a quick note to let you know what's going on in the Wooly world of the Mammoth...
WM has been on hiatus since our last performances in Oct. 07. We had to take some time to get a few things in order...Q:"I can no longer stand sharing a room in this dilapidated warehouse that smells of death, costs too much and sounds so bad that I can't even tell what we are playing, where are we going to practice?" A: "Let's build our own rehearsal space to our own specifications and set up some recording gear so we can get every jam on tape."
...So we have been dedicating all our time to writing new material and dusting off some old ideas in our new "Mammoth Cave". The aim is to be patient, enjoy the creative process, and take our time writing a new album. We are intent on crafting something serious. So far the new stuff is awesome. Really heavy. We are taking things in a few new directions and still retaining a sound that we feel is ours... Some more up-tempo stuff happening, some tighter more aggressive stuff, still a lot of spacey, doomy vibes as well. Most importantly it is much more of a group effort than in the past.
We will be playing some shows here and there over the next few months testing out new material and mixing up all the old stuff, but mostly we will be in the cave with our sleeves rolled up and our thinking caps on. In a few months we will enter Orion Recording Studios in Baltimore, MD. with the magnificent producer, Mr. We Cantsayyet to lay it all down. You'll see, it's gonna be killer. This will be our first recording with Jason on bass. His first recording since leaving Meatjack. That's a big deal. We are writing together, he is doing some incredible vocals and he's just generally a phenomenal musician. Good hands, good brain, good heart. Phil is really starting to develop an even more precise and distinct style to really make these songs live and breathe. For my part I am playing till my fingers are numb and trying to focus a lot of energy on imagery and the idea of our sound evolving. This will be the record that really reflects what we are all about. Once the recording adventure has come to an end we'll get the show back on the road...
We just put up this new website, which is a work in progress. We'll continue to add content regularly. Including new demos from the cave, a whole batch of new photos, an updated bio, and more entries in this section from the three of us. Check back soon and stay awake music fans. It's not easy these days.
